The Joy of Clowning

Drawing on many years of teaching experience at places such as The Guildford School of Acting, The Global Clown School, and numerous schools and theatre groups, these playful and imaginative workshops and courses offer a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your most curious, spontaneous and authentic self.

Through carefully guided games and exercises, you’ll free your body, voice and imagination, anchor yourself in the present moment, and slip naturally into states of flow and play.

From this place of child-like wonderment, your clown begins to emerge—playful, vulnerable, bold, and beautifully true.

Ideal for both emerging and professional performers of any discipline who want to deepen stage presence, spontaneity and audience connection.

Workshops can be tailor-made for individuals, groups, schools, and companies - from a one-off stand-alone or taster workshop; a 1-3 day intensive ; a 6 week course (12 hours) – let’s talk!

Testimonials

Just attended The Joy of Clowning with Anna Murton and besides being an expert in clown performance, she brought her wonderful warmth and love to a room of strangers and had us all performing together as clowns in just a day.

After a skilfully designed slate of warmup and introduction activities, we learned the internal processes clown performers go through to create the outward experience of clowning.

The exercises built on each other to give us all the reference experiences which are required to go from academic knowledge to functional performing utilities.

Any kind of performer can use these skills to express to audiences through the language of clown different emotions and characters.  The skills can be combined to create a wide variety of modes for whatever your artistry might be.

Will definitely attend the level two, my new red clown nose is waiting anxiously for the opportunity.
